A powerful illustration of how we used our experience and expertise to create tremendous value lies in our leadership in establishing  Regal Lifestyle Communities.  The subsequent sale of Regal, which we managed on behalf of our investors, created significant value and left a lasting legacy.

The journey began when a group of seasoned real estate professionals collaborated to establish a new, publicly listed entity in the seniors' housing sector. Through an initial public offering on the Toronto Stock Exchange, symbolized as RLX, we successfully raised approximately $150 million. This capital was utilized to acquire an initial set of 10 retirement homes across Canada. Post-IPO, we effectively managed and expanded Regal's portfolio, incorporating an additional 13 high-quality homes from diverse vendors, culminating in the company's eventual sale in 2015. The principles of Marigold's philosophy and management style, that we had developed over many years, were applied to the Regal business. These principles go beyond the usual financial and market analysis to embrace a set of core values - Authenticity, Growth, Ownership, and Respect.  An illustration of how these values were applied in practice was the conceptualization of "the retirement home of the future"—a community designed to appeal to more active seniors, fostering a community for all individuals.

This approach enabled Regal to tackle a significant challenge: harmonizing consistent operating and cultural principles across eight disparate businesses within its acquisitions, amalgamating them into a unified, long-term commitment to excellence. Beyond conventional financial strategies, our growth strategy yielded double-digit annual returns, solidifying our position as one of Canada's premier real estate consultant firms, with application across a broad range of sectors.

These values, along with a shared vision, form the cornerstone of all our endeavors. Our experience in leading a thriving, ethical investment outlined the significance of prioritizing people and cultivating a culture that empowers and supports its members—a bottom-up rather than top-down management approach. These cultural values, embedded in every facet of our organization, constitutes our "secret sauce."

Upon completion of the sale of Regal, a new entity, Marigold, was formed to continue to support value creation in real estate.  Notably, the name, Marigold, drew inspiration from the Regal success and the 2011 British comedy-drama "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel." In this film, seven unrelated British tourists find themselves in Jaipur, India, where an incomplete hotel transforms into a supportive seniors-only residence. This intentional association reflects our commitment to creating supportive and vibrant living environments, embodying the spirit of the film's transformative setting.

* It was no coincidence that our name, Marigold, was inspired by the 2011 British comedy-drama “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” with a star-studded cast, in which seven unrelated and quirky British tourists vacation in Jaipur, India, where their as yet to be completed hotel turns into a supportive seniors-only residence.
